LOWE'S ANNOUNCES WEEKLY SALES

 NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Lowe's (NYSE: LOW) sales for the first week of October 1993 totaled $89.8 million, a 17 percent increase over the first week of October 1992. Sales to retail customers increased 20 percent and sales to contractors grew 11 percent.

 The two-year compound growth rates in weekly sales are: Retail, + 23 percent; Contractor, + 17 percent; and Total, + 21 percent. The October 1991 comparable week's sales from 307 stores were $ 41.1 million retail, $ 20.5 million contractor, and $ 61.6 million total.
 Lowe's monthly sales report series will continue to summarize four-week, four-week, and five-week totals, including comparable store sales results. Lowe's quarterly news releases of sales and earnings will continue to present precise calendar totals.
