LOWE'S ANNOUNCES WEEKLY SALES

 NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Lowe's (NYSE: LOW) sales for the second week of August totaled $ 86.6 million, an 18 percent increase over the second week of August 1992. Sales to retail customers increased 20 percent and sales to contractors grew 12 percent.

 The August 1991 comparable week's sales were $ 38.4 million retail, $ 18.8 million contractor, and $ 57.2 million total. The two-year compound growth rates in weekly sales are: Retail, + 25 percent; Contractor, + 18 percent; and Total, + 23 percent. The August 1991 comparable week's sales were from 307 stores.
 Lowe's monthly sales report series will continue to summarize four- week, four-week, and five-week totals, including comparable store sales results. Lowe's quarterly news releases of sales and earnings will continue to present precise calendar totals.
