LOWE'S ANNOUNCES RECORD WEEKLY SALES

 NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Lowe'e Companies Inc. (NYSE: LOW), today announced sales for the second week of December totaled $107.9 million, a 35 percent increase over the second week of December 1992. Sales to retail customers increased 33 percent and sales to contractors grew 39 percent.

 The December 1991 comparable week's sales were $44.7 million retail, $18.0 million contractor, and $62.7 million total. The two-year compound growth rates in weekly sales are: Retail, + 33 percent; Contractor + 27 percent; and Total, + 31 percent. The December 1991 comparable week's sales were from 306 stores.
 Lowe's monthly sales report series will continue to summarize four-week, four-week, and five-week totals, including comparable store sales results. Lowe's quarterly news releases of sales and earnings will continue to present precise calendar totals.
 Lowe's is a specialty retailer of home improvement products. The company serves customers in 309 stores in 20 states, and was recently ranked in Doubleday's newest edition of "The 100 Best Companies to Work For in America."
