 NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C., Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Lowe's Companies,


Inc. (NYSE: LOW) announced its November sales totaled $227.9 million, a 13 percent increase over November of 1990. Retail sales increased 15 percent and sales to contractors increased 9 percent.

 (B) Stores open less than one year and stores which have been retrofitted or relocated within the past twelve months.
 (C) 6 stores closed between December 1990 and November 1991.
 As stated in our weekly sales release on November 26, 1991, there is an aberration in weekly sales because Thanksgiving was in the third week of November 1990 and is in the fourth week of November 1991.
 A new store opened in Ashland, Kentucky in November. Relocations opened in Princeton, West Virginia; Hagerstown, Maryland; Claypool Hill, Virginia; Lake Charles, Louisiana; Rocky Mount and Morganton, North Carolina during the month adding 340,940 incremental square feet. Older, smaller units were closed through consolidation in Knoxville, Tennessee; Doraville, Georgia and Orlando, Florida representing a total of 21,000 square feet.
 Lowe's monthly sales report series will continue to summarize four-week, four-week, and five-week totals, including comparable store sales results.
 Lowe's quarterly news releases of sales and earnings will continue to present precise calendar totals.
 Lowe's is a specialty retailer serving the home center do-it-yourself business, the consumer durables business, and the building contractor business. Lowe's operates 306 stores in 20 states.
