LOUISIANA-PACIFIC PLANT IN OLATHE, COLO., SUBJECT OF INVESTIGATION
PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Louisiana-Pacific Corp. (L-P) (NYSE: LPX) has been informed that the company and one or more employees at its Olathe, Colo., manufacturing facility are the targets of a federal grand jury investigation directed by the United States Attorney's office in Denver and by the Environmental Protection Agency concerning alleged tampering with emissions monitoring equipment and alteration of plant records, L-P said today.
The company began an internal investigation in the summer of 1992 and reported its initial findings of irregularities to governmental authorities in September. Shortly thereafter, the government began its investigation with which L-P intends to fully cooperate. The company does not know when the investigation will be completed.
L-P Chairman and President Harry A. Merlo stated "L-P policy requires strict observance of the law at all times. We have no indication that any L-P employees outside the Olathe plant had knowledge of events related to these alleged violations. We expect the government's investigation to be thorough and fair."
