LOUIS MALLE'S 'DAMAGE' FROM NEW LINE CINEMA TO OPEN DEC. 23 IN NEW YORK AND LOS ANGELES, NATIONWIDE ON JAN. 22, 1993

 Film's Release Dates Rescheduled
 LOS ANGELES, Nov. 23 ~PRNewswire~ -- New Line Cinema's

(AMEX: NLN) film "Damage" by Director Louis Malle will open in New York and Los Angeles on Dec. 23, with the film's nationwide release on Jan. 22, it was announced today by Mitchell Goldman, president of New Line Distribution.
The film had been scheduled to open on both coasts one week earlier, with the nationwide release previously slated for Jan. 16. "Damage" will open in time for Academy consideration.
Goldman said the release of "Damage" was revised because of the film's rating controversy. "Damage" has been the focus of recent controversy after it received a restrictive NC-17 rating by the Motion Picture Association of America which cited the explicit nature of the film's sex scenes. New Line lost an appeal to receive an 'R' rating for "Damage" and is still considering options for the film's release.
In "Damage," Jeremy Irons portrays Stephen Fleming, a politician who has an illicit affair with his son's fiancee Anna Barton, played by Juliette Binoche.
Malle -- director of such acclaimed films as "Au Revoir Les Enfants," "Atlantic City" and "Pretty Baby" -- based "Damage" on the best-selling novel by Josephine Hart. The film also stars Miranda Richardson, Rupert Graves, Ian Bannen and Leslie Caron. "Damage" is produced by Malle and co-produced by Vincent Malle and Simon Relph. The film was adapted for the screen by David Hare.
This year marks New Line Cinema's 25th anniversary as the leading independent producer and distributor of theatrical motion pictures, with more than 20 releases due in 1992. New Line licenses its films to ancillary markets including cable and broadcast television, as well as to all international markets. The company is traded on the American Stock Exchange under the symbol AMEX~NLN.
