LOUIS J. HORVITZ SET TO DIRECT ATAS' '45TH ANNUAL PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS' FOR ABC-TV

LOS ANGELES, July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Louis J. Horvitz, veteran director of scores of major "live" awards and special event television programs, has been set by Executive Producer Don Mischer to direct his first Primetime Emmy Awards telecast -- the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences' (ATAS) "45th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Presentation" -- to be broadcast on the ABC Television Network Sunday, Sept. 19 (8-11 p.m. ET/PT) from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
Horvitz previously directed the "19th and 18th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards," the first two primetime presentations of the Daytime Emmys on NBC and CBS, respectively. He also directed the last four years of the "The Annual CableAce Awards" and the last two years of "The People's Choice Awards." From 1988 through 1991 he directed the "American Film Institute Life Achievement Awards" that separately saluted Jack Lemmon, Gregory Peck, Sir David Lean and Kirk Douglas. This year he also directed the HBO special "A New York Night Live Comedy Festival" and two specials for ABC: "The Jim Thorpe Professional Sports Awards" (which he also directed last year) and "World Music Awards" from Monte Carlo with Prince Albert of Monaco and Michael Jackson for the Princess Grace Trust -- a 90-minute special for ABC.
Other major recent directorial credits include Liza Minnelli's "Steppin' Out" for Sony HDTV, "Muhammad Ali's 50th Birthday Celebration" for ABC, "The Republican National Convention" for the Republican National Committee and C-Span, "Supermodel Of The World 1992," "For Our Children: Hope for Children With AIDS" for Disney, and the last five years of "Lou Rawls Parade of Stars" and "Unsolved Mysteries Live" for NBC.
Horvitz was nominated for a Directors Guild of America Award in 1966 for directing the "Live Aid Concert" ABC telecast from JFK Stadium in Philadelphia and for two CableAce Awards in 1991 for "The Judds Farewell Concert" (live, pay per view) and "Paul Simon's Concert in the Park" for HBO.
