LOS ANGELES REGION TOYOTA SALES HEAT UP THE WINTER MONTHS

IRVINE, Calif., March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The Los Angeles Region of Toyota Motor Distributors, Inc., today reported that strong passenger car and sport utility vehicle (SUV) sales helped support total vehicle sales of 8,168, a 6.0 percent increase over 1995.

"Our all-new 4Runner and RAV4 SUVs have been a big hit with customers and the media alike," said Jim Byers, Los Angeles Region general manager. "With the strength of our entire product line, we're seeing customers returning to the showrooms and taking new cars and trucks home with them."

The redesigned 4Runner was up 42.3 percent for the month with 1,149, and up 20.7 percent for the year-to-date. On sale for only a few weeks, RAV4 sold 501 units.

Camry sales of 2,182 represent an increase of 15.5 percent over February, 1995, and an increase of 3.1 percent for the year-to-date. Also posting strong sales for the month were Corolla, up 23.9 percent with 1,327 sales, and Avalon, up 14.1 percent with 508.

At opposite ends of Toyota's sporty car spectrum, Paseo and Supra saw increases of 30 percent and 5.5 percent respectively.

Based in Irvine, the Los Angeles Region distributes Toyota vehicles and provides sales support to 72 dealers throughout Southern California.
