Byline: The Register-Guard

Hibiscus is a 2-year-old chinchilla who may live to the age of 15 or older. The species originated in the Andes of South America and adapted to a cool, dry environment by developing dense fur. Hibiscus bathes in dust, not water, and can get overheated easily. He needs an adopter willing to provide an appropriate habitat that includes room to run and jump. He is a crepuscular, meaning he's up for cuddling and play at dawn and dusk, and sleeps during the day.

Hibiscus is neutered, and his adoption fee is $100 which includes an educational session specific to his needs. He would be happiest in an all-adult home.

The Greenhill Humane Society, 88530 Green Hill Road, is open for adoptions Friday through Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Adoption prices vary. View more adoptable animals at or call 541-689-1503.
