LONGHORN STEAKS NAMED TO 'R&I 400' AND
RESTAURANT BUSINESS' 'TOP 50 GROWTH CHAINS' LISTS
ATLANTA, Aug. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The strong performance of Longhorn Steaks, Inc. (LHS) (NASDAQ: LOHO) propelled the restaurant company through a recessionary 1991 to inclusion in two of the top indicators of industry leadership.
The Atlanta-based company made its debut on the 1992 "R&I 400" listing of companies nationwide, compiled by the trade publication Restaurants & Institutions, and was named to Restaurant Business' "Top 50 Growth Chains" list for the third consecutive year.
Restaurants & Institutions' list, now in its 28th year, is considered the broadest ranking of the foodservice industry's major players. Longhorn Steaks was No. 330 in its first appearance on the roster -- based on a 1991 sales figure of $43.1 million -- and was identified as one of the industry's "small aggressive newcomers." "R&I 400" rankings measure systemwide sales of prepared food and beverages for brands in 21 segments of the hospitality industry.
In the 1992 Restaurant Business' "Top 50 Growth Chains" list, Longhorn Steaks jumped to No. 23 from last year's No. 40 rank, with a 26.2 percent increase in 1991 sales over 1990. The company ranked 15th in unit growth on the same list, up 26.1 percent from 1990. Longhorn Steaks was 28th in unit growth on last year's list. The annual "Top 50" roster ranks the top performers nationwide by percentage of growth in systemwide sales and number of units.
Longhorn Steaks, Inc. is a publicly held company, founded in 1981 in Atlanta by George McKerrow Jr. Modeled on the traditional Texas steakhouse, Longhorn Steaks restaurants specialize in freshly cut, USDA choice, griddle-cooked beef.
