LONG APPOINTED CALCOMP PRESIDENT

ANAHEIM, Calif., Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Gary R. Long has been appointed president of CalComp Inc., a Lockheed company and a leading provider of computer graphics peripherals. He reports to Val P. Peline, Lockheed group president-electronic systems, who headed CalComp on an interim basis after William P. Conlin, its president of 10 years, left the company in November.
Long was formerly senior vice president and general manager of the CalComp Digitizer Division in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The new head of the Digitizer Division is James R. Bell, vice president, reporting to Long. Bell returns to CalComp after nearly two years as vice president of business development for the Hudson, N.H.- based Lockheed Commercial Electronics Co. (LCEC). He had held the same position with CalComp's Electronics Manufacturing Group (EMG), which separated from CalComp in 1992 to become the LCEC.
Long headed the Digitizer Division from its establishment in 1980 following CalComp's acquisition of Talos Systems, where he was vice president of operations. Prior to his eight years with Talos, Long worked at Collins Radio Co. and General Dynamics.
Bell first joined CalComp in 1983 at the Display Products Division in Hudson and was named vice president of operations in 1988; the division was later restructured as the EMG before becoming the LCEC in 1992. Previously, he was president of Material Progress Corp., a manufacturer of crystal products used in the semiconductor industry.
"The promotion of Gary Long and the appointment of Jim Bell signal a new era of strong, dynamic leadership at CalComp," said Peline. "They bring to their latest positions many years of valuable experience with the company and in the computer graphics industry in general."
CalComp was founded in 1958 and is headquartered in Anaheim. The company manufactures more than 100 computer graphics products and holds major positions worldwide in the plotter, printer, digitizer and pen- based computing markets.
