LOGSU1 awarded MUC.
Cmdr Mark Bollong, Chief Staff Officer, Naval Special Warfare Group ONE, presented the citation to Cmdr. John Cassani, the outgoing commanding officer of LOGSU1, in recognition of the command's significant achievements from Jan. 1, 2009 through Dec. 31, 2010.
The award recognized LOGSU1 as the Navy's first, fully integrated command to successfully provide combat service support to SEAL Team Squadrons.
"This award certainly personifies our dedication and commitment to supporting the Naval Special Warfare community," Cmdr. Cassani explained. "As a Supply Corps officer-led command, it certainly demonstrates the Supply Corps' dedication and commitment to supporting the Naval Special Warfare community."
According to the citation, LOGSU1 provided combat service support to six Naval Special Warfare Squadrons in pre-deployment training, and on operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Philippines, greatly increasing Naval Special Warfare's expeditionary logistics capabilities and credibility in the Central and Pacific Command Area of Responsibilities.
"LOGSU1 personnel integrate themselves very well," Cmdr. Cassani said. "Where the rubber meets the road is when a SEAL Team goes down range with a combat service support troop from LOGSU1. The troop provides the SEAL Team with the necessary tools to success-fully carry out their mission."
LOGSU1 played a very Large and defining role in improving logistics processes, customer service, and equipment accountability across the command. They exceeded all logistics support and maintenance production benchmarks while also balancing mission accomplishment and risk management.
"LOGSU1 is the go-to command for everything from ball-point pens to 50 caliber sniper Rifles," Cmdr. Cassani emphasize. "I am absolutely amazed at the amount of material we move each week, and the scope of responsibility our sailors and civilians are assigned."
LOGSU1's mission is to plan, coordinate, integrate, synchronize, and provide logistics support for Commander, Naval Special Warfare Group ONE and its subordinate units in order to directly support Naval Special Warfare operations and training in peace, crisis and wartime; at home and forward deployed to the United Stated Central Command and Pacific Command areas of responsibility.
