LOCKHEED AWARDED ENGINEERING, TEST, AND ANALYSIS CONTRACT AT JOHNSON SPACE CENTER

HOUSTON, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration today announced that it has selected Lockheed Engineering & Sciences Co. (LESC) to negotiate a contract for its Engineering, Test, and Analysis Contract at Johnson Space Center. The 10-year contract, valued at approximately $1.5 billion, covers an initial five-year period, with a one-year and four-year renewal option.
The Engineering, Test, and Analysis Contract funds engineering, analytical, scientific, and technical services in support of the Engineering Directorate, Space and Life Sciences Directorate, and New Initiatives Office at Johnson Space Center. The contract begins in January 1994. McDonnell Douglas Aerospace will be the largest of several subcontractors on the program. The contract will employ about 1,900 people; approximately 20 percent of that total will be employed by Small Disadvantaged Businesses.
"We are extremely pleased that NASA has selected Lockheed to continue its support to Johnson Space Center on this important program," said Richard P. Parten, LESC president. "Our people take great pride in their contributions to the space program in Houston over the past three decades, and we all look forward to supporting the JSC mission in the challenging years ahead."
Lockheed began its support to NASA in Houston in 1963. Over the years, Johnson Space Center has recognized the company and its people with many prestigious awards. LESC received the JSC Team Excellence Award both in 1988 and 1989, and the company became the first services company to receive a national quality award when it was presented with the NASA Excellence Award for Quality and Productivity in 1989. In addition, the company received the 1992 Leadership Award from the National Quality & Productivity Management Association for its quality program strategy, implementation, and results.
Headquartered in Houston, LESC provides a broad range of support services in engineering, the sciences, data processing, and test and evaluation to NASA, the U.S. Army, the U.S. Navy, and other government agencies. LESC has more than 2,000 employees in the Houston area and about 4,000 employees nationwide.
