LOCAL MAN BRINGS BOSTON ROTISSERIE CHICKEN TO SQUIRREL HILL

PITTSBURGH, May 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Local native Pat McDonnell today opened the second Boston Chicken(R), a homestyle maker of rotisserie-roasted chicken, at 5889 Forbes Ave., in the Squirrel Hill section of Pittsburgh, to cater to what he calls "active professionals" -- working couples who have limited time to prepare a fresh hot meal for the entire family and who are turned off by traditional fast food.
"Boston Chicken(R) will be the answer for many two-career families," says McDonnell, president of P&L Food Services, who grew up in Lincoln Place and attended Taylor Allderdice High School. He plans to open additional stores in Monroeville, Pa., and North Hills/McKnight Road by the end of June.
McDonnell says the Boston Chicken menu consists of marinated, rotisserie-roasted chicken, sandwiches, home-made chicken pot-pies and old fashioned chicken soup. Individual entrees are priced from $3.99. Value priced family meal combinations are also available for two to 10 people. "Here is a real value," says McDonnell, "we offer a whole bird, your choice of two hot or cold side items and cornbread for $12.99. Three people can dine out for under $5 each."
Boston Chicken side dishes include garlic and dill new potatoes, butternut squash, creamed spinach, homemade mashed potatoes and stuffing. Deli salads such as cole slaw, tortellini and cranberry walnut relish are also available in a variety of sizes.
"The finishing touch is the freshly baked cornbread that comes with each meal," says McDonnell. "All dishes are available for carry-out and are made fresh daily on the premises," he adds.
McDonnell captured the appetites of Western Pennsylvanians in 1981, when he opened the first local franchise for Chi-Chi's Mexican Restaurant. Later, he set his sights on Chili's Grill and Bar Restaurant and currently owns local franchises in Monroeville, the North Hills on McKnight Road, South Hills/Century III area and Canton, Ohio.
"Factors that really make a restaurant a success," says McDonnell, "are that you have to have great people who enjoy serving others, the best possible locations, and a good concept."
P&L Food Service also operates three Eastern Ohio Boston Chicken franchises and plans to open five to seven more in Pittsburgh by year's end.
