 LOCAL INDEPENDENT MEASUREMENT SCORES ANNOUNCED
BY NEW GREAT LAKES AREA POSTAL MANAGER
CHICAGO, Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- In announcing the latest service performance scores, the U.S. Postal Services new manager of Delivery and Customer Services for the Great Lakes Area said he and his management team are committed to providing the highest level of service ever this holiday season. The Great Lakes Area includes Indiana, Illinois and Michigan.
Ormer Rogers Jr. said that nationally, Opinion Research Corp. reports that 87 percent of the households nationwide rated their overall service as excellent, very good or good -- up two points over last years figures.
Rogers added that local customer satisfaction scores in the Great Lakes Area are:
 Customer Satisfaction 1992 1991
 Chicago (Ill.) 69 65
 Detroit (Mich.) 86 85
 Grand Rapids (Mich.) 92 89
 Indianapolis (Ind.) 85 84
 North Suburban (Ill.) 88 87
 Royal Oak (Mich.) 89 88
 South Suburban (Ill.) 84 87
"The Great Lakes Area is somewhat encouraged by these results. Almost all of our districts improved over last year. These numbers show that must of our customers have a positive perception of the Postal Service, but we are still not where we want to be," Rogers explained.
"We are currently working on improving customer services," Rogers continued. "We plan to implement several new customer service initiatives such as extended window hours, added collection boxes, shortened lines, and lobby directors to make the Postal Service more responsive to the needs of our customers," Rogers said.
Another independent measurement system, conducted by Price Waterhouse, shows the Postal Service delivered overnight-committed First-Class Mail nationally 82 percent -- on time -- compared to 83 percent in 1991.
