 LOCAL 250 AND KAISER-PERMANENTE BEGIN BARGAINING NEW CONTRACT;
 13,000 WORKERS IN 30 HEALTH CARE FACILITIES
 OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The two largest health care organizations in California, Local 250, the Hospital & Health Care Workers' Union and Kaiser Permanente began bargaining sessions this week for their new contract. The Local 250 master contract with Kaiser covers over 13,000 workers in 30 hospitals and clinics throughout Northern California. The current contract expires on Oct. 31, 1992.
 Planning for these bargaining sessions has been going on for several months. Local 250 members representing virtually every one of the Kaiser hospitals and clinics represented in the contract negotiations sit on the bargaining committee.
 The current contract, which became effective in 1989, achieved major economic and benefit advancements for all Local 250 workers and represented a new relationship between Local 250 and Kaiser.
 "There is no question," said Local 250 President Sal Rosselli, "that these workers have worked hard to provide the best quality of patient care to the more than 2.4 million Kaiser Health Plan members. Again, there is a determination by the bargaining committee to assure workers the fair and equitable contract they deserve.
 Local 250 represents virtually all hospital workers except physicians, registered nurses and includes x-ray technicians, clerical employees, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, dietary workers, housekeepers, laundry workers, licensed vocational nurses, and several other technical classifications.
 The location for these meetings is the Local 250 headquarters and the Airport Holiday Inn, both in Oakland.
 Local 250, Hospital & Health Care Workers' Union, with over 32,000 members, is the largest health care union local in the Western United States and the largest union local in California. Local 250 is affiliated with the Service Employees International Union.
