LL&E announces Richard A. Bachmann elects early retirement.

NEW ORLEANS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 25, 1996--The Louisiana Land and Exploration Company (NYSE:LLX) ("LL&E") announced today that Richard A. Bachmann, President and Chief Operating Officer of the Company, will take early retirement prior to the end of this year.

H. Leighton Steward, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Company, said, "Rick Bachmann has been a loyal and dedicated executive who has been a significant contributor to many of LL&E's accomplishments over the years. We wish Rick the very best in his new endeavors."

The Company indicated that Mr. Steward will reassume the role of President. Management of day-to-day operations of the Company will be handled by the Office of the Chair, which will include Mr. Steward, Louis A. Raspino, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and John A. Williams, Senior Vice President of Exploration and Production.
