LITEL TO OFFER CUSTOMERS NEW 700 INFORMATION SERVICE COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- LiTel Communications, Inc.
has signed an agreement with Infoline Technology to provide information services to LiTel's business and residential customers through 700 access. By dialing 700 and a seven-digit number, LiTel customers will have on-demand access to a variety of up-to-date information.
The first services LiTel will provide are eight basic library services including national headlines, stock quotes, weather forecasts, sports scores, soap opera summaries, horoscopes, lottery results and entertainment updates. "Unlike common information services which are usually accessed via 900, LiTel will utilize 700 access to assure availability to our own customers," said Thomas J. Wynne, LiTel president and chief operating officer. "An added incentive to using LiTel's information services product is that it will cost between 10 and 20 percent less than most similar services offered by competing information providers in the marketplace." LiTel is entering the information services marketplace and fully intends to avoid any and all controversial subject matter associated with information services such as adult-only materials and other questionable offerings to consumers. "We're entering into this business at this time because it marries well with LiTel's residential plan," said Joshua H. Funt, LiTel's director of residential services. It is anticipated that LiTel will begin selling its long distance products to residential users within a matter of weeks. LiTel's plan to provide residential long distance service nationwide is pending regulatory approval. "LiTel will offer a very competitive rate for these information services so as not to burden the user," Funt said. "We also see some applications for business users to utilize some of these information services as well." LiTel and Infoline Technology are companies both based in Columbus and recognized each others significant experience and expertise in their respective fields as a means to develop this working relationship. "Infoline has demonstrated itself to be a proven player in the information services business," Funt said. "We admire Infoline's dedication to legitimate information services which is featured in their quality products." Infoline Technology provides voice mail and both information and interractive services to a variety of business customers throughout the Midwest.
