LIPOSOME COMPANY NAMES SILVERMAN VP OF STRATEGIC PLANNING PRINCETON, N.J., July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The Liposome Company, Inc.
(NASDAQ: LIPO) today named Edward G. Silverman to the newly created post of vice president, strategic planning and business development, reporting to the chief executive officer. Silverman, 39 years old, was previously executive director, marketing and sales, for the Liposome Company.
In his new position, Silverman will oversee the strategic development, positioning, and planning for the Liposome Company's proprietary products and technologies. He will also be responsible for evaluating licensing and commercial opportunities for the company. "Ed brings 15 years of pharmaceutical industry experience, both domestic and international, to this important new post," said Charles A. Baker, chairman and chief executive officer of the Liposome Company. "His demonstrated abilities in identifying business opportunities and bringing new products to market will be especially valuable as we move closer to our goal of becoming a fully integrated pharmaceutical company." Prior to joining the Liposome Company in 1989, Silverman held a number of marketing and strategic planning positions with major pharmaceutical companies, including SmithKline & French Laboratories, G.D. Searle & Co., and CIBA-GEIGY Corporation.
