 LINCOLN-MERCURY ANNOUNCES SERVICE ACTION
DETROIT, Sept. 29, /PRNewswire/ -- Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) is

voluntarily notifying owners of about 2,000 1993 model Mercury Villager vehicles of a safety recall to replace the brake master cylinder assemblies, and to inspect the mounting bolts for the guide rails of the front automatic shoulder belt restraint system.
Quality inspections at the assembly plant disclosed the possibility that some brake master cylinders may have been improperly assembled, which could lead to reduced brake effectiveness. In addition, inspections showed that some bolts that attach the shoulder belt guide rails may not have been tightened to specifications. Owners will be notified by mail.
"Because Villager is our first entry in the growing minivan market, Lincoln-Mercury Division has authorized an unprecedented customer satisfaction measure for this small group of initial purchasers," said Lee R. Miskowski, Ford vice president and Lincoln-Mercury general manager. "Mercury dealers are being asked to offer pick-up and delivery of recalled vehicles, and to provide loaner vehicles, at no charge to the customers."
While 4,400 units are subject to the recall, only 2,000 of the specified units have been delivered to customers. The remaining vehicles are still in dealer inventories. About 600 of the recalled vehicles are in Canada.
