 LINCOLN TELECOMMUNICATIONS HOLDS QUARTERLY MEETING
LINCOLN, Neb., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of

the Lincoln Telecommunications Co. (NASDAQ: LTEC), at its regular quarterly meeting held in Lincoln yesterday, declared the third quarter common stock dividend of 22 cents per share. Dividends are payable Oct. 10, 1992, to stockholders of record on Sept. 30, 1992. The third quarter dividend will be the 222nd consecutive dividend paid by the corporation since 1936.
The board of The Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Co. also met and declared the third quarter dividend of $1.25 per share on the company's 5 percent preferred stock.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer James E. Geist reported that by the end of 1992, Lincoln Telephone will have invested approximately $34 million for service improvement projects. During the third quarter new digital switching systems were installed in DuBois, Steinauer, Ohiowa, Tobias and Ong. Geist added that with the conversion of several smaller exchanges to digital switching equipment outside of Lincoln and the installation of a new digital switching system in Lincoln to serve customers with the 474 and 475 prefix during the fourth quarter of this year, all of Lincoln Telephone's customers will be served by digital switching equipment. Geist said that another major service improvement project will be completed this month when the last analog interoffice transmission facilities are replaced with digital facilities. Interoffice facilities connect the switching centers throughout Lincoln Telephone's 22-county service area.
Geist also reported that demand for the company's data services has continued to grow. An agreement has been reached with the city of Lincoln to use the company's metropolitan fiber optic network. Work is underway to connect the first four buildings on the network, the County- City Building, the Police Station, Lincoln Electric System and the Old Federal Building. The fiber network will connect city government employees and others who use city data processing services, including Lincoln Electric System.
Geist added that testing of the company's new frame relay service is underway. Initial users include the University of Nebraska, where university locations in Lincoln and the University Medical Center in Omaha have been connected. Lincoln Telephone is cooperating with other telephone companies in the state to provide the statewide frame relay service, which improves the speed, capacity, reach and efficiency of local area networks.
