LIMA NAMED DIVISION PUBLIC AFFAIRS MANAGER FOR HISPANIC COMMUNITY AND SAN FERNANDO VALLEY

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- GTE California has announced the appointment of Elva Lima to the newly created position of division public affairs manager for the Hispanic community and GTE's San Fernando Valley Division, effective Sept. 12.
In this position, Lima will be GTE's key local representative for Southern California's extensive Hispanic community and will also have specific public affairs responsibilities for GTE California's San Fernando Valley service areas.
GTE's San Fernando territory covers 175 square miles including Granada Hills, Northridge, Pacoima, Sylmar and Mission Hills among other cities. The company serves approximately 240,000 lines throughout the region.
A 13-year company veteran, Lima began with GTE as a service clerk in Marina del Rey. Since that time, she has held a variety of increasingly responsible positions in the customer contact organization, spending the past two years as administrator-Language Assistant Center Support in Thousand Oaks. Lima currently serves on a customer contact team addressing national Language Assistance Center issues.
"Elva's strong community background will enable the company to build upon the close relationship GTE has with Southern California's Hispanic population, the citizens of the San Fernando Valley Division and the opportunities and important issues in these communities," said Tom Anderson, director-public affairs.
Lima has extensive experience with local organizations and activities, particularly in the Hispanic community. This includes serving as a coordinator for GTE's involvement in the Oxnard and San Fernando Cinco de Mayo celebrations, the San Fernando Youth Education and Motivation Program, Fiesta Broadway in Los Angeles and the Commission Femenil De Los Angeles Scholarship Award Dinner. In addition, she is past recipient of the Los Angeles Unified School District's volunteer award and the Tres Condados Girl Scout Council Woman of Achievement Award.
"We look forward to having someone with Elva's extensive background in customer service and a thorough knowledge of our industry working with the Hispanic community and the San Fernando Valley," Anderson said.
GTE California provides a wide range of telecommunications services to 3.1 million customers in 330 communities throughout the state.
