LIFECODES GRANTED A PCR LICENSE TO PRODUCE DNA MOLECULES

STAMFORD, Conn., March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Roche Molecular Systems, Inc. (RMS) a subsidiary of Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. has granted Lifecodes Corporation of Stamford a license for the commercial application of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) process in the manufacture of oligonucleotides. The license will permit Lifecodes to produce DNA molecules using one or more of the claims covered by the PCR patent.
According to Lifecodes CEO and Chairman, Walter O. Fredericks, the license will permit the company to expand its line of reagents used by researchers in conjunction with the PCR process and enhance its position as the leading supplier to the human DNA identity field. "We are pleased that Roche considered Lifecodes as a vehicle to provide additional biological material in the area of human identity. The agreement permits Lifecodes to expand upon our sale of primers and probes which we have either licensed from others or developed internally," said Fredericks.
Lifecodes is a biotechnology company concentrating on the development of products for human identity through the use of DNA and related methods.
Roche Molecular Systems, Inc. with worldwide headquarters in Branchburg, N.J., is responsible for the development, manufacture and marketing of PCR. Presently, RMS is developing PCR for use in a variety of different markets, including human diagnostics, research, quality control, environmental and forensics.
