LIFE SAVERS BRAND INTRODUCES NEW CANDY

 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The newest Life savers candy is and isn't what you'd expect.
 Life Savers Gummi Savers are shaped like the famous candy-with-the- hole, have the familiar Life Savers taste and come in a roll-shaped package, but the similarities and there. These Life Savers candies are chewy.
 "Gummi Savers have the same great flavors and top quality that America has come to expect from the Life Savers brand, but they have an entirely different texture that's fun to chew," explains Amy Bowden, product manager for the candy, which is made by the LifeSavers Division of the Nabisco Foods Group.
 The candies were introduced in September 1991 in the western United States.
 "The test market was an overwhelming success," Bowden says. "We couldn't make them fast enough. We knew we had a hit on our hand."
 The LifeSavers Division began shipping the candies nationally in February.
 Gummi Savers come in three flavor varieties, Five Flavor, which includes lemon, lime, orange, wild cherry and pineapple-flavored candies; Tangy Fruits, which includes tangy cherry, lemon, sour apple, tangerine and watermelon-flavored candies; and Mixed Berries, which includes blackberry, red raspberry, black raspberry, cherry berry and strawberry-flavored candies.
 Life Savers Gummi Savers are packaged in a five-inch roll-like package that contains 13 candies. Each piece is placed in its own section of a thermoform tray which is overwrapped with paper packaging that resembles a roll of Life Savers candy. Each candy has 12 calories.
 The suggested retail price is 45 cents per roll.
 "Life Savers Gummi Savers are a whole new way for consumers to enjoy Life Savers flavors," Bowden says. "Gummi Savers are deliciously squishy."
