LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR LAUNCHES SAVINGS BOND CAMPAIGN AT STATE CAPITOL RALLY

ST. PAUL, Minn., March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Looking for a pain-free way to help the country with its deficit problem? Buy U.S. Savings Bonds, say government and business leaders speaking today at a State Capitol rally to launch the 1993 Minnesota Savings Bond campaign.
Lt. Gov. Joanell M. Dyrstad and 1993 Savings Bond Campaign Chair Toby G. Warson, chief executive officer of Alliant Techsystems, Edina, Minn., were joined by leaders from business, labor, government and education, as well as Savings Bond campaign coordinators, to launch the Take Stock in America Savings Bond drive.
"Today, the interest payment on the nation's debt is one of the country's largest budget items," said Warson. "Buying Savings Bonds trims those interest payments and helps lower the federal deficit, all the while providing individuals a safe, liquid investment with a competitive rate of return."
"Bond buyers invest in their own future by investing in America's future," said Dyrstad. "Clearly, the time is right for Minnesotans to take stock in America."
The celebrity spokesperson for the Minnesota Savings Bond campaign is Minnesota Timberwolf Doug West. The Timberwolves are helping sponsor this year's campaign by providing a variety of incentives to encourage participation in payroll savings. At the capitol, Chris Wright, vice president of marketing for the Timberwolves, unveiled a poster featuring West that will be distributed to more than 500 businesses, schools and government agencies across the state that participate in the payroll savings campaign.
