 LIDA EXPECTS LOWER THIRD-QUARTER RESULTS
NEW YORK, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Lida, Inc. (NASDAQ: LIDA) today

announced that it anticipates that net sales for the third quarter of 1992 will be 25-30 percent below the like period results in 1991 and that net income will be approximately 70 percent lower. Before the effect of the start-up costs at the Gastonia, N.C. plant, net income would have been expected to be in line with the revenue shortfall, according to Isaac Kier, president and chief executive officer.
The disappointing project quarter results were attributed by Mr. Kier to the company's inability to take full advantage of its new Gastonia facility as well as a continuing weakness in the demand for printed fabrics.
Mr. Kier added, "A weak retail-apparel sector also has continued to depress the results, although we expect this downward trend will reverse itself in the fourth quarter. Once the new plant is fully operational we will be able to shift production to meet changing demand between prints and solids."
The delays at Gastonia have been due to environmental problems, since resolved, and difficulty in delivery, relocation and installation of equipment. According to Mr. Kier, "We believe the production problems are behind us. The Gastonia facility is now operating at 30 percent of capacity and additional capacity will be coming on line in the fourth quarter."
Lida is a leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of "topweight" fabrics, particularly Lycra (R) spandex blend fabrics, primarily used by its 650 customers in the production of women's sportswear, swimwear and activewear.
