LIBYA - Profile - Ali Abdessalam Triki.
Dr. Triki, aged 60, was previously Libya's ambassador to Paris, having helped the regime in many ways out of his Paris posting. Triki had been ambassador to France since Feb. 3, 1995. (Tripoli had no ambassador in Paris since March 1994, although the vacancy was not linked to a UN recommendation that Libya scale down diplomatic ties in conjunction with sanctions over the Lockerbie case. The vacancy was caused by the negative effects which the UTA bombing had on Tripoli and for which a solution in July 1999 included a Libyan payment of compensation for the victims).
Triki is a veteran diplomat. He served as secretary for foreign liaison from 1977 to 1981 and again in the mid-1980s. He represented Libya at the UN in 1986 but curtailed his activities there for diplomatic and health reasons.
