LIBEL WIN BUT NAIL FACES pounds 200K BILL.
Nail, star of TV's Auf Wiedersehen Pet, was awarded pounds 30,000 damages after a newspaper story accused him of sordid sex acts.
But he could be landed with the full legal costs of the action because he turned down a bigger settlement offer from the News of the World of pounds 37,500. Nail, 48, sued over the article, published in May 2002, which said he had been involved in 'acts of bizarre and extreme sexual exhibitionism'.
Nail had pressed ahead with a claim for pounds 100,000.
However, at the High Court in London the judge, Mr Justice Eady said his claim was 'disproportionate'.
The costs issue will be resolved at a later date.
Outside court, Nail's legal team said he was 'very pleased' he had won the libel battle.
