 LG&E ENERGY CORP. ANNOUNCES CLOSING OF PARTNERSHIP INTEREST
 IN NATURAL GAS CLEARINGHOUSE
 LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- LG&E Energy Corp. (NYSE: LGE) announced today that LG&E Energy Systems, through a subsidiary, has completed its previously announced acquisition of a one-third general partnership interest in Natural Gas Clearinghouse (NGC). As part of the agreement, an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of British Gas plc (NYSE: BRG) also acquired a one-third interest in NGC. The remaining one-third ownership of NGC continues to be held by its management.
 NGC, headquartered in Houston, Texas, is the largest independent natural gas marketing company in the United States and is an industry leader in marketing, aggregating, processing and transporting natural gas and natural gas liquids.
 LG&E Energy Systems' subsidiary paid approximately $52 million plus fees and expenses for its partnership interest. The partnership interests acquired were held by subsidiaries of Apache Corporation, Noble Affiliates Inc. and DEKALB Energy Company, all of which are independent oil and gas companies.
 British Gas plc, headquartered in London, is the largest publicly quoted, integrated natural gas company in the world.
 LG&E Energy Corp. owns Louisville Gas and Electric Company and also subsidiaries nationwide engaged in independent power production and other energy-related activities.
