LEXUS EXECUTIVE COMMENTS ON J.D. POWER INITIAL QUALITY STUDY

TORRANCE, Calif., May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The following comments were made by George Borst, group vice president and general manager of the Lexus division of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. Inc., in response to the J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study released today. Lexus was ranked as the nameplate with the fewest problems per vehicle (66 problems per 100 vehicles). The LS 400 (54) and Lexus sport coupes (66) were ranked as the first and second models.
"Increased competition in the auto industry has led to dramatic improvements in product quality and it's nice to be on the leading edge of that trend. But the consumer is the real winner. What passed for industry-leading quality three or four years ago is middle-of-the-road today. The consumer continues to benefit from the results of increased competition and the intense focus on customer satisfaction."
Borst is available today for further comment and to answer questions on the IQS results.
