 FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Lexicon Corporation


(NASDAQ: LEXI) today released the results for its fiscal 1992 first quarter which ended Nov. 30, 1991.

 Revenue from continuing operations increased approximately 21 percent in the current quarter due to the continued increase in the company's Signal Technology revenue. The company's total contract backlog was $11,534,000 at Nov. 30, 1991 compared with $11,150,000 at Nov. 30, 1990.
 The company reported net income of $20,214 (less than $.01 per share) in the quarter ended Nov. 30, 1991, compared with a net loss of $797,933 ($.10 per share) in the prior year, which reflected the profit associated with the increased contract activity and a reduction of selling, general and administrative expenses. The net loss in the prior quarter reflected unrealized and realized losses on marketable securities totaling $470,971 and included a loss from the discontinued sports technology business, which was sold in July 1991, of $104,047 ($.01 per share).
 Through its wholly owned subsidiary, SCOPE Incorporated, the company is involved in electronic warfare programs in the areas of pattern recognition, target recognition and interrupt and analysis systems for the Department of Defense and related agencies. SCOPE is considered a leader in the development of non-cooperative target recognition systems and is currently under contract with the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy to provide this important capability to their forces.
