LEVITZ FURNITURE INCORPORATED ANNOUNCES DECEMBER SALES UP 8.8%

BOCA RATON, Fla., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Levitz Furniture Incorporated (NYSE: LFI) announced today that sales for the month of December amounted to $90,100,000 as compared to $82,800,000 last year, an increase of 8.8%. For stores open more than one year, the sales increase was 5.6%.
For the first nine months of the fiscal year, sales amounted to $748,500,000 vs. $685,400,000 last year, an increase of 9.2%. For stores open more than one year, the increase amounted to 7.8%.
Robert M. Elliott, Levitz' chairman and chief executive officer, stated, "Comparable store sales for the California market showed approximately the same increase as for the country as a whole. This is the first time during this recovery that California has had a positive impact on the overall results. Our Miami store had a large decline from last year as a result of the inflated business last year due to Hurricane Andrew. If sales for the Miami store were excluded from the total both this year and last year, comparable stores sales for the chain as a whole would have amounted to 8.6%."
