LEVER BROTHERS LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN CLEAN' TO HELP HOMELESS PEOPLE
NEW YORK, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Lever Brothers Company announced today that it will sponsor "Campaign Clean," a regionalized program to help homeless people. The program was coordinated with the National Coalition for the Homeless and is comprised of three components: a clothes drive to provide homeless people with clean, warm clothes this winter, a public education campaign, and a donation of a year's worth of Lever's laundry detergent and fabric softener products to a shelter in each participating region. As part of this campaign, the Whirlpool Corporation has donated a washer and dryer to each of these shelters. Areas participating in the program include Baltimore, St. Louis, Los Angeles, and the New York/New Jersey, Atlanta, and Chicago/Hammond metropolitan areas.
According to David Webb, president and chief executive officer of Lever Brothers Company, "It is our goal not only to provide the homeless of these communities with warm, clean clothing and blankets during the upcoming winter months, but also educate the public on what they can do to help solve this national problem of homelessness."
Fred Karnas, executive director of the National Coalition for the Homeless added, "Tragically, the recent recession has rendered even more Americans homeless. The time for action and compassion is now, in order to ensure that homelessness does not become an epidemic."
To facilitate Lever Brothers' public awareness campaign, the company has produced a brochure to educate people about homelessness and what they can do to help. This brochure is available by calling Lever Brothers' toll-free number, 800-451-6679, or by writing to: Lever Brothers Company, Consumer and Public Relations, 390 Park Avenue, New York, N.Y. 10022-4698.
In support of "Campaign Clean," national sports personalities will be featured speakers at news conferences across the United States. Notables include Otis Anderson of the New York Giants, Gary Clark of the Washington Redskins, Don Sutton, sports commentator and fifteen-year veteran of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and, Otis Wilson of Chicago Bears fame.
