LEVEL ONE COMMUNICATIONS RECEIVES FIRST HDSL ORDERS

FOLSOM, Calif., Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Level One Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: LEVL) today announced that it has received the first production orders for its High Speed Digital Subscriber Line (HDSL) Data Pump.
The Level One HDSL Data Pump is designed to transmit data up to 12,000 feet on standard telephone company transmission lines. Currently, repeaters are installed along these transmission lines to receive and regenerate signals, typically at intervals of one mile. The HDSL Data Pump reduces the need for the repeaters for most business locations in the United States and allows the operating telephone companies to reduce costs, while offering customers faster hookup to services now offered with high-speed digital signal transport systems.
"The Level One Data Pump was developed through a program supported by a consortium of leading international telecommunication equipment suppliers," said Robert Pepper, chairman and chief executive officer of Level One Communications. "These first orders represent a significant milestone in the development of a cost-effective HDSL solution and positions Level One for continued strong growth," he added.
Level One designs, develops and markets mixed-signal application specific standard integrated circuit products (ASSPs) for high-speed digital signal transmission and networking connectivity applications. Level One combines its strengths in analog and digital circuit design with its communications systems expertise to produce mixed-signal solutions with increased functionality and greater reliability, resulting in lower total system cost.
