LEVEL ONE COMMUNICATIONS RECEIVES $7 MILLION ORDER FOR HDSL CHIPSETS

SACRAMENTO, Calif., March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Level One Communications, Incorporated (Nasdaq: LEVL) today reported that it has received an order totaling $7 million for the Company's 2-chip High Speed Digital Subscriber Line (HDSL) data pump. The order is scheduled to be shipped over fourteen months, commencing in the second quarter of 1996. Due to customer policy and competitive reasons, Level One is unable to disclose the name of the customer at this time.

"The market's response to our 2-chip HDSL data pump solution has been tremendously positive," stated Dr. Robert Pepper, president and chief executive officer. "We believe it offers the best price performance, has the lowest power consumption, and is the most integrated solution available on the market today. With our 2-chip solution we have greatly strengthened our market position in the HDSL arena. To date, we have shipped over 250,000 HDSL data pumps. This order reinforces our position as a leading supplier of standard HDSL data pumps."

The Level One HDSL solution is designed to transmit data up to 12,000 feet on standard telephone company transmission lines. Currently, repeaters are installed along these lines to receive and regenerate signals, typically at intervals of one mile. The HDSL "Data Pump" minimizes the need for repeaters, and enables telephone companies to reduce costs.

While this order is scheduled for future delivery, Level One does not intend to update information about this order. Consistent with Level One policy, customer orders are subject to changes in delivery schedules or to cancellation at the option of the customer without significant penalty. Level One's periodic reports filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission identify other important factors that could cause actual results to differ materially from those discussed herein.
