LEGGETT & PLATT REPORTS RECORD SECOND QUARTER AND FIRST HALF RESULTS

 CARTHAGE, Mo., July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Leggett & Platt, Incorporated (NYSE: LEG) today reported record earnings and sales for the second quarter and the first six months of 1993. Net earnings for the quarter increased to $.51 per share on sales of $333.8 million. Compared with the second quarter of 1992, earnings per share increased 31 percent while sales were up 18 percent. Excluding acquisitions, sales increased 13 percent.
 For the first half of this year, earnings per share were $.99 (up 29 percent) and sales were $654.7 million (up 15 percent) -- both compared with the first half of 1992. Excluding acquisitions, first half sales increased 12 percent.
