LEGATO ArchiveXtender 5.1 Delivers Support for Microsoft

Windows Server 2003; Increased Optical Storage Support for

Latest Plasmon UDO and Sony PDD Technologies

LEGATO Software, a division of EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC), today announced the availability of ArchiveXtender(TM) version 5.1 (ArcX), delivering support for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and breakthrough optical technologies from Sony and Plasmon. This announcement further extends LEGATO's leadership in intelligent data management (IDM) solutions that reduce storage cost of ownership and provide key components for information lifecycle management (ILM).

With more than 8,000 users, ArcX is widely integrated with healthcare, document imaging, financial, and other applications to automate the storage and management of data on optical devices. By aggregating optical media into a virtual storage pool, ArcX enables customers to transparently write to and read data from CD, DVD, Magnetic Optical (MO) and now Ultra Density Optical (UDO) and Professional PDD in order to meet compliance and litigation requirements, and minimize management overhead.

ArcX serves as an easy to operate, standalone solution that enables users to quickly "drag and drop" infrequently accessed data into an optical storage pool. This provides organizations with a simple Windows archiving solution helping to meet compliance requirements. Also, users gain immediate ROI through lower storage acquisition costs, less complexity, and faster time to backup and recovery.

In addition to Windows Server 2003, Plasmon UDO and Sony PDD support, ArcX 5.1 adds the latest CD, DVD and MO device support from optical device manufacturers including Kubota, Panasonic, PowerFile and JVC.

"Aligning the value of information with the right storage at the right time is an increasingly vital need across business and government organizations," said Victoria Grey, vice president, Business Continuance, LEGATO Software. "This latest release of ArchiveXtender reinforces LEGATO's commitment to providing world-class intelligent data management solutions for today's Windows customers with the flexibility to leverage the most appropriate disk, tape or optical storage resources to meet their business objectives."

ArchiveXtender version 5.1 is immediately available. For more information on this solution, visit www.legato.com.
