LEE RICH PRODUCTIONS ACQUIRES FOUR NOVELS FOR THEATRICAL PRODUCTION

Joel Schumacher Set To Direct Ron Bass Script Of "The Hunting Club"
BURBANK, Calif., Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Underscoring his strong belief in literary properties as a primary source of material for his independent production company, Lee Rich has announced the purchase of four highly sought-after novels to be developed as theatrical features by his Warner Bros.-based independent production company, Lee Rich Productions.
Rich, who is well known for his interest in literary properties and already owns the rights to many including the best seller "Boss of Bosses" and John Katzenbach's crime thriller, "Just Cause," has optioned four other major literary works which will be made into major motion pictures, three falling under his non-exclusive deal at Warner Bros., and one to be made at 20th Century Fox.
The projects announced by Rich include:
"The Hunting Club," written by J.G. Sandom, will be published by Bantam. A suspense thriller, the book deals with five best friends who are pitted against one another after a raucous bachelor party ends with a murder. Academy Award-winner Ron Bass, whose credits include "Rain Man" and "Sleeping With The Enemy," is writing the screenplay which will be directed by Joel Schumacher ("Flatliners," "St. Elmo's Fire" and the upcoming "Falling Down," starring Michael Douglas.) The film will be done for Warner Bros. in 1993.
"Paradise Junction," by Phillip Finch, to be published by St. Martins Press this winter. Purchased jointly by Lee Rich and Clint Eastwood's Malpaso Productions for production at Warner Bros. Award-winning screenwriter Michael Cimino is scripting the thriller which focuses on two blue-collar anti-heros and a yuppie couple who become involved in a double-cross and a sting.
"Florida Straits," the highly praised first novel by Larry Shames was published by Simon and Schuster in July. A comedy set in Florida, "Florida Straits" is the story of Joey Goldman, a 27-year-old lovable underdog and illegitimate son of a New York mob boss and his quest for success in Key West. A film in the style of "My Cousin Vinnie," the script is currently being written by Vince McKewin and will be produced in 1993 for 20th Century Fox.
"Prey," by Ken Goddard, will be published by TOR Books in late 1992. In the tradition of "Deliverance" this action thriller involves a life-or-death struggle in the wilderness. Currently being scripted by Mike Mahern the project is in development at Warner Bros.
