LEE IACOCCA TO ANNOUNCE CHRYSLER-FUNDED TELEVISION SPECIAL
Chrysler Chairman Lee Iacocca will hold a press briefing in a Washington elementary school this week to announce a unique PBS television special Chrysler is funding called "Learning In America: Education on Trial."
The briefing is at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11 in Stevens Elementary School, 1050 21st St. N.W., Washington.
Other participants are Pat Henry, president of the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA), and Al Vecchione, president of MacNeil/Lehrer Productions, the company which -- along with WETA/26, Washington -- produced "Education on Trial." The three-part series airs Jan. 6, 13 and 20.
A clip of "Education on Trial" will be shown at the press briefing.
The program fuses journalism and the law. A courtroom, presided over by a Colorado judge, is the forum for debating education issues of national importance. Witnesses from across the country -- including parents, teachers and community activists -- are questioned by two practicing attorneys.
Viewers will be the jurors. They will be asked to record their verdicts using toll-free phone numbers. Verdicts of each trial will be reported in USA Today.
