LEE IACOCCA AND MOTHERS AGAINST DRUNK DRIVING JOIN FOR HOLIDAY MESSAGE
HIGHLAND PARK, Mich., Dec. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Lee Iacocca and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) have joined to produce and distribute a holiday "Don't drink and drive" radio public-service announcement.
"Last year, after the holidays, I got some letters from people who had been hit by drunk drivers. They're alive because they were wearing their seat belts and had an air bag," said Iacocca, chairman of Chrysler Corporation (NYSE: C). "The letters were so moving, they make a real believer out of you."
Mothers Against Drunk Driving has been working with Chrysler's Dodge Division since 1988 sponsoring the Dodge Drunk Driving Simulator and "Th!nk ... Don't Drink and Drive!" campaign, and welcomed the opportunity to endorse and encourage broadcasting the 15- and 30-second radio spots.
According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, more than 22,000 people are killed and 345,000 are injured in the United States each year due to drunk driving. Since MADD's inception in 1980, alcohol-related traffic fatalities have decreased by about 20 percent -- saving 41,000 lives.
"More alcohol-related crashes happen this holiday than any other. So please, drive safely and drive sober," the organization urged.
