Summary: The latest statistics released by the Port of Beirut revealed an improvement in most of the PortEe's indicators in the first month of 2016.

The latest statistics released by the Port of Beirut revealed an improvement in most of the PortEe's indicators in the first month of 2016. The number of ships posted an increase of 15.0% year-on-year to reach a total of 153 vessels in the first month of 2016. During the corresponding period of 2015, the indicator had registered a decrease of 19.9%. Furthermore, the number of containers recorded an annual increase of 19.9% to attain a total of 65,782 in the first month of 2016. This followed a decrease of 4.3% in the corresponding period of 2015. The PortEe's revenues reached US$ 18.4 million in the first month of 2016, up from US$ 16.0 million in the same period of 2015, an increase of 14.7%. The quantity of goods rose by a yearly 18.7% to 683 thousand tons in the first month of 2016, following a decrease of 18.1% reported in the corresponding period of 2015. In contrast, transshipments declined by 9.7% year-on-year to attain 26,116 containers in January 2016. This registered a decrease of 14.3% in the first month of 2015.
