Process sales, which are sales of proprietary chemical specialties, electronic and imaging chemicals and do not include the price of precision metals, increased 7 percent to $15,528,000 for the three months ended Nov. 30, 1991, up from $14,485,000 for the quarter ended Nov. 30, 1990. Process sales for the nine-month period ended Nov. 30, 1991, were $43,753,000, an increase of 5 percent from $41,777,000 for the prior-year period.
Ron Ostrow, president and chief executive officer, indicated that the company's process sales, profit margins, and net income continue to be impacted by the worldwide recession. In addition, during the November 1991 period, one of the company's unconsolidated affiliates reported a net loss, principally due to a provision for potential bad debts from two major customer. The company's share of this loss, recorded in the November 1991 quarter, was approximately $500,000. This third quarter charge was partially offset by decreased income taxes in the quarter. Ostrow also stated that net income was in line with the prior year, in part because of the effect of cost containment and cost reduction programs implemented at its major manufacturing operations.
LeaRonal, Inc. develops and markets a wide variety of specialty chemicals utilized in the electronics and metal finishing industries.
