LEADING JAPANESE TRAVEL FIRM JOINS BUSINESS TRAVEL INTERNATIONAL
Northbrook, Ill., April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Nippon Travel Agency, a Japanese company with $5 billion in total sales, has joined IVI Travel and eight other multinational firms as a primary partner in Business Travel International. The addition makes Business Travel International the largest joint venture of its kind in the world.
Business Travel International integrates each partner's specific market expertise into a single source of high quality global travel management service for mutual customers.
Established in 1905, the Tokyo-based Nippon Travel Agency is Japan's oldest travel agency with 260 locations throughout the island nation and 38 offices overseas, including its 26-year-old wholly owned United States subsidiary NTA Pacific. Nippon Travel Agency's nearly 5,000 employees provide specialty travel service to an impressive multinational customer base, which includes Honda, Suzuki Motors, Matsushita Electronics and Toyota in Japan.
In adding Nippon Travel Agency to its multinational roster of partners, Business Travel International greatly expands its presence in the pivotal Asian marketplace and significantly enhances its ability to serve corporate customers around the globe.
"Gaining a prestigious, experienced Japanese partner such as Nippon Travel Agency is a vital component in our mission to provide consultative travel management for an increasingly international marketplace," said Business Travel International Chairman Walter Freedman.
"By fusing the individual strengths of travel companies from around the world, Business Travel International provides a unified global capability to corporate customers. Each partner maintains solid leadership in its home market, where quality local service is paramount to business travelers," added Freedman, who also is president of IVI Travel.
Business Travel International has made unprecedented technical strides in globally consolidating travel data while introducing other advances such as worldwide vendor negotiations to the international travel arena.
Anticipating an increasingly global marketplace, Freedman and his counterparts at Hogg Robinson Travel of the United Kingdom, Hapag-Lloyd Travel of Germany and Holland International of the Netherlands conceived and created Business Travel International in March 1990 as an alliance that uses each partner's specific market expertise to deliver high levels of service, purchasing power and information to its mutual customers. Havas Voyages of France, Bennett Travel of Scandinavia, Transcontinental of Belgium and National Australia Travel joined the partnership shortly after it was founded.
Business Travel International's broad array of innovative travel and travel management services span the globe through 1,700 worldwide locations, including IVI Travel's more than 250 offices in North America. The partnership of 10 of the world's leading travel firms represents a combined annual purchasing volume exceeding $10 billion.
