LCI INTERNATIONAL UNVEILS SIMPLE, FAIR & INEXPENSIVE RESIDENTIAL LONG DISTANCE SERVICE IN TOLEDO

 TOLEDO, Ohio, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- LCI International today unveiled to the Toledo area a new residential long distance service -- SIMPLE, FAIR and INEXPENSIVE (SF&I) designed to revolutionize long distance pricing and simplify it for consumers.
 The LCI International SF&I plan is the company's latest move to distinguish itself as a truly different long-distance provider offering its customers no-nonsense, reliable service with superior customer service. In addition, the SF&I plan eliminates some inequities in its competitors' calling plans.
 "Long distance customers no longer need a scorecard to tell them what a call will cost because we have simplified the rate structure," said LCI President Thomas J. Wynne. "AT&T, MCI and Sprint collectively have more than 100 long-distance calling plans, all with fancy names and different rates. It is very confusing to consumers who may not know what a particular long distance call will cost when they pick up the phone. LCI's Simple, Fair and Inexpensive service is changing the way Americans think about long distance by offering straight-forward, reliable service with absolutely no fine print. There is simply no catch."
 LCI's SF&I residential customers pay only one of two domestic rates -- 12 cents per minute Monday through Friday between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. and all weekend (from 6 p.m. Friday night to Monday morning at 6 a.m.), and 17 cents per minute Monday through Friday 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
 Unlike most long distance plans, distance does not affect the price of the call -- meaning the cost is the same if the call is made from Toledo to Columbus or from Toledo to Los Angeles. "This is what we call a postalized rate," Wynne explained. "It is like putting a stamp on a letter. The price of the stamp is the same, whether the letter is going across the state or across the nation. Consumers have often complained that they're unfairly charged for intrastate calls. SF&I eliminates this inequity in our industry."
 LCI test-marketed its SF&I plan in Columbus and Cleveland last year with great success. Customers truly appreciate the simplicity of LCI's residential long distance service.
 "Consumers there have been very receptive to our revolutionary long distance service," Wynne explained. "These new customers tell us our service is reliable and priced right. They especially appreciate that they know exactly what they are paying for their calls because of the simplicity of the SF&I plan. Our customer service program also has received high marks."
 Toledo is one of the first cities where LCI will be using a variety of means to tell the public about its SF&I plan. LCI will use both print and television advertising in the Toledo market beginning January 25.
 LCI currently serves many leading companies in the Toledo area including the Dana Corporation, the University of Toledo, the Medical College of Ohio (MCO), Cooper Tire and Mid Am Bank. LCI has operated a branch office in Toledo for eight years and currently serves nearly 3,000 business customers with billings of $6.5 million yearly in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan.
