LCI INTERNATIONAL NAMED OFFICIAL LONG DISTANCE CARRIER
FOR THE OHIO GLORY AND THE COLUMBUS CLIPPERS
COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- LCI International today announced that the company has signed agreements with the Ohio Glory of the World Football League and the Columbus Clippers of baseball's International League to become the official long distance carrier for both central Ohio franchises.
As part of these separate agreements, LCI will handle the outbound long distance calling for both organizations. LCI also will place ads in game programs and participate in several promotional acitivities during home games.
During the upcoming seasons, LCI will host special calling programs which will allow randomly selected fans the opportunity to place a free, three-minute long distance call to a family member or a friend anywhere in the U.S. from within the stadium.
"We are pleased to establish this relationship with the Ohio Glory and the Columbus Clippers," said Thoams J. Wynne, LCI International president. "These two franchises have done a tremendous job of marketing their teams to the Ohio sports fans. LCI is currently marketing the WorldCard -- a competitively-priced calling card that provides travelers with a variety of enhanced domestic and international services not offered by our competition. Promoting the WorldCard with two teams that do extensive traveling throughout the nation and the world is fitting in bringing this product to the public.
"The LCI WorldCard is uniquely suited to the players and officials of the World Football League," Wynne continued. "They will be able to use this card to place calls back to the U.S. or from one foreign country to another. This is something not available from any of the major telecommunications companies."
LCI is no stranger to marketing its long distance services by way of participating with collegiate and professional sports. LCI is the official long distance provider for the National Basketball Association's "Indiana Pacers," the Continental Basketball Association's "Rockford Lightning," professional soccer's "Illinois Thunder" and the "Indianapolis Indians," the Triple-A franchise of the Montreal Expos. LCI is also the long distance provider for the Mid-America Conference with headquarters in Toledo, Ohio and golf's prestigious Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio.
LCI also is the official long distance carrier for AmeriFlora '92 which begins its six-month show in Columbus, Ohio on April 20. The company is building a worldwide calling center to allow AmeriFlora's six million anticipated visitors the opportunity to place both domestic and international long distance calls in a comfortable setting.
"The calling programs are great fun for the fans attending a sporting event," Wynne said. "Last Thanksgiving we held a similar program during the Detrit Lions and Dallas Cowboys game from the Silver Dome in Pontiac, Mich. The fans enjoyed placing calls to family and friends to wish them a Happy Thanksgiving and tell them about the football game."
LCI International is a worldwide, facilities-based telecommunications company that provides a full line of voice, data and video transmission services to meet both business and residential customer's needs through its state-of-the-art fiber optic network. LCI International Worldwide Telecommunications, with headquarters in Columbus, is a privately-held company whose majority shareholders include New York-based E.M.
