LCI INTERNATIONAL GRANTED AUTHORITY BY FCC TO RESELL INTERNATIONAL PRIVATE LINE SERVICES TO 16 COUNTRIES

DUBLIN, Ohio, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- LCI International, Inc. (NASDAQ: LCII) today announced that the company has received approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to resell International Private Line services to 16 countries. In addition, LCI has gained permission to connect Canadian originated or terminated private lines to the public switched network.
LCI International is the third long-distance carrier in the United States to be granted authority by the FCC to get Canadian interconnectivity. The two other carriers with this capability are EMI Communications Corp. and Fonorola Corp.
The authorization includes private line service to Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
LCI's ability to offer private line services in Canada was granted provisionally pending a review of a complaint filed by AT&T. "AT&T's original objection to LCI offering this service has already been dismissed by the FCC," said Eric Mattlin, LCI's manager of international services. "AT&T has filed a petition for reconsideration of the FCC's Canadian equivalency finding in the EMI and Fonorola cases. We believe that the petition for reconsideration should be dismissed as well."
LCI's ability to resell International Private Line service allows the company to have more control in managing the costs of providing service to its customers.
"By extending LCI International Private Line services to Canada, France, the United Kingdom and other areas of the world, we are continuing with our effort to expand our international service to the world's commercial centers," said Thomas J. Wynne, LCI's president and chief operating officer.
LCI International, Inc. is a publicly-held, worldwide, facilities- based telecommunications company that provides to its business and residential customers a full array of voice, data and video transmission services through its fiber optic network. LCI International, Inc., with headquarters in Washington, has its operational subsidiaries headquartered in Dublin, Ohio, and has sales offices in cities throughout the midwest and along the Atlantic coast.
