DUBLIN, Ohio, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- LCI International (NASDAQ-NMS: LCII) today announced that the company has formed a new Data Services Group to address the increasing demand for data communications by its customers and the nation's business community overall.
"This marks another milestone in the growth and development of LCI's response to the evolving needs of the telecommunications marketplace," said Thomas J. Wynne, LCI's president. "With our added emphasis on increasing sophisticated telecommunications uses, it is natural and appropriate that we give new focus and added dimension to our data services."
The new Data Services Group will consolidate LCI's current data development and marketing resources to provide customers with the data services and support required to meet individual networking needs.
"The establishment of the Data Services Group reflects LCI's commitment to providing reliable and cost-effective solutions in support of the growing data needs of our customers," Wynne explained. "The importance of data communications to the business community is growing at a rapid pace. LCI's priority is to bring a quality data communications package to our customers."
The LCI Data Services Group will be under the direction of Scott Booth, LCI's senior manager of data services marketing. Data services which are ii?ately available through LCI include frame relay, Electronic Transaction Processing, switched digital services (56K through T-1) and the delivery of data over various leased lines. LCI will make X.25 services available early in the fourth quarter. Access to Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is available via an LCI alliance with Sterling Software, Inc.
"LCI plans to work very closely with its customers to identify and provide the data services that are required in order to meet an individual customer's data networking needs," said Booth.
The unique aspect of LCI's data offering is that the company is positioned to provide access to virtual private network services and a wide variety of data services over a single LCI-provided dedicated local access connection along with the major competitive advantage of providing an economical cross-discounting plan among all services.
"LCI has taken the lead in providing its customers with additional savings by cross-discounting each and every service to which a customer subscribes," Booth explained.
"LCI has consistently provided high-quality, competitive switched voice services," added Wynne. "The addition of a full range of data services to the LCI portfolio of services, provided in the same high- quality and competitive fashion, positions LCI as a true full service provider of telecommunications services."
LCI soon will complete the formation of the Data Services Group with a formal Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) announcement which will detail the company's strategy for delivering advanced services to its customers along with virtually instantaneous bandwidth.
LCI International is a publicly held, worldwide, facilities-based telecommunications company with headquarters in McLean, Va., and its operational subsidiaries headquartered in Dublin, Ohio.
