LCI INTERNATIONAL ACQUISITION OF LONG DISTANCE SERVICE COMPLETED

DUBLIN, Ohio, June 7 /PRNewswire/ -- LCI International, Inc. (NASDAQ: LCII), today announced that it has completed its acquisition of Long Distance Service, Inc. (LDS), a McLean, Virginia-based long- distance provider.
"Our acquisition of LDS is a very important strategic move for us," said LCI Chairman H. Brian Thompson. "This is an excellent opportunity for us to improve the economics of our business, extend our marketing reach and give us a solid operation that is located on the East Coast -- which is the doorstep to 50 percent of all long distance calls completed throughout the United States." LDS is the nation's oldest privately held long distance company, having been founded in 1980 by Richard J. Rice. The company has found a unique niche in the telecommunications market and has taken a long-term strategic approach to serving the businesses of the national metropolitan area and surrounding Atlantic Coast states.
LCI International, founded in 1983, is a worldwide, facilities-based telecommunications company that provides a full line of voice, data and video transmission services. In 1993 LCI's first quarter minutes of use over its network grew by 21.9 percent over the comparable quarter in 1992 and its first quarter revenues grew by 20.2 percent over the first quarter in 1992 to approximately $75 million. LCI's steady growth has been attributed to a variety of new services and promotions including the company's nationwide origination, simplified pricing approaches and a focused sales attack on both its existing market and new cities in the east, midwest and southeast areas of the country.
Going forward, LCI will continue to build on and enhance current LDS services in the business arena and will introduce its "Simple, Fair and Inexpensive" series of residential telecommunications services in the LDS marketplace.
LCI International, Inc., is a publicly held, facilities-based telecommunications company with headquarters in Washington. The worldwide company has its operational subsidiaries headquartered in Dublin, Ohio.
