LCI INTERNATIONAL'S CAMPUS TALK PROGRAM OFFERS LONG DISTANCE ALTERNATIVES FOR STUDENTS

DUBLIN, Ohio, Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- LCI International (NASDAQ-NMS: LCII) today announced that its Campus Talk program, a long- distance calling card service geared to meet the needs of students who are away from home, has well exceeded the company's projections for the beginning of the 1993-1994 academic year.
By offering students a pre-approved credit line of $75 in long distance usage, Campus Talk enabled LCI to sign up more than 90 sponsor groups at colleges and universities and more than 12,000 student subscribers in the 1992-93 school year with no formal advertising campaign. Due to the success of Campus Talk, LCI last month launched an extensive radio and print advertising campaign. This ad campaign is targeted to more than 400,000 students attending 18 colleges and universities from Charlottesville, Va., to Boulder, Colo., to Miami.
"Campus Talk is a terrific opportunity for sponsor organizations on campuses to make money while promoting a long distance calling program designed to be cost-effective and easy to use for students living on or off campus," explained LCI President Thomas J. Wynne.
LCI offers special student services like direct student billing with remote billing options as well, allowing the bill to be sent to the students' parents. Flexible payment options allow payments to be made by check, money order, VISA, MasterCard or Discover. Campus Talk offers simplicity by ending bill confusion by enabling roommates to receive their own long-distance bill even though they share the same phone in a campus dormitory or apartment. The card may also be used as a travel card. Best of all, LCI said, Campus Talk offers lower costs with no monthly service fee, no surcharge for each call and low per-minute rates.
"Sponsor organizations are real beneficiaries of the program as well," explained Robert Hemmen, LCI's enhanced service manager. "These organizations range from sororities, fraternities, student governments or the university itself. The sponsor organization helps LCI market Campus Talk to students and in return receives a percentage of the students' usage each month in the form of a commission paid back to the sponsor."
The University of Illinois, Canisius College, Indiana University, Long Island University, Purdue University, Ohio Dominican College, University of Toledo, University of Pittsburgh and West Virginia University are examples of where sponsors and organizations are taking advantage of LCI's Campus Talk program.
