LAY OFF LAMBIE AND CO; ..and give Gough a go!

IT really is getting to the ridiculous stage when some nutter tries to run Falkirk manager John Lambie's car off the road just because they lost to Stenhousemuir in the Cup.

It's that time of the season again with managers like Alex Mcleish, Alex Totten, Alex Smith and sundry others getting pelters for their clubs performances.

I'm still dithering on my own future in the game but that kind of thing does tend to put one off football management!

Whatever way you look at it, management is a short career - and getting shorter.

I always remember Willie Miller telling me that he used to like to think that when he went home to his family he'd be able to shut the door and forget all about it.

But it deson't work that way. And when it begins to affect your family, then it really is time to get out.

I SEE that I'm to be joined by Richard Gough and Joe Jordan in the STV squad for Euro '96.

That should make for some good verbal volleyball. But I still think it's ridiculous that Gough will not be part of the Scotland squad.

He's been quite the most outstanding and inspirational players on the domestic scene.

I know the likes of Colin Hendry and Colin Calderwood have done a great job but I think Craig Brown still owes the Scottish public a forthright explanation why Gough is not part of his squad. Let's clear the issue up once and for all.
